Cop under close arrest for domestic violence

A Police Constable has been placed under close arrest after a report of domestic violence was made against him by his partner.
Reports indicate that the rank was arrested in Regional Division Three, (Essequibo Islands- West Demerara) at about 00:29h over the weekend.
While details are still sketchy, Guyana Times understands that the cop’s partner went to a Police Station and lodged a formal complaint of domestic violence that led to his colleagues arresting him.
He remains in custody pending investigations.
Earlier this year, a Police Sergeant of Auchlyne Estate Corentyne, Berbice, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne), who was the subordinate officer in charge of the Balirmont Police Station, was placed under close arrest after he shot his partner of four years.
It was reported that the sergeant had moved out from the home after his partner had ended their relationship. However, he went back to the house armed with a hand gun, and discharged a round in the woman’s direction. She was shot in the process.
Following the incident, he picked up the woman, took her to the Fort Wellington Public Hospital in his motorcar, dropped her off at the hospital’s gate, and drove away.
He was later arrested, but has since denied the allegations. The case is still ongoing. (G9)
