…warning shot fired after disorderly crowd gathered at scene
Two Police ranks in Regional Division Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara) were attacked and injured while responding to a domestic violence report at Crane Housing Scheme, West Coast Demerara (WCD).
Reports are that at about 21:40h on Friday evening, a 26-year-old female reported via telephone that her 24-year-old male partner had assaulted her.
The cops went to the scene and upon arrival, the male suspect and another man attacked the ranks with a piece of wood. This caused injuries to one of the officer’s backs and to another’s right hand.
Police said that several persons who were at the scene started to gather around and began to behave in an aggressive manner, chanting to the ranks to leave the suspects alone.
As a result, one of the officers discharged a round in the air to disperse the crowd.
This led ranks to arrest both suspects who were then taken to the La Parfaite Harmonie Police Station, where they were placed into custody pending charges.
Both officers were then taken for medical attention at West Demerara Regional Hospital where they were treated and sent away.
Investigations are continuing. (G9)
