Two men are now in Police custody after they were found with guns in their possession following their arrest in Werk-en-Rust, and Blygezight Gardens, Georgetown.
Reports are that at about 20:00h on Saturday, ranks from Regional Division 4A (Georgetown) were on motorcycle patrol duty in Blygezight Gardens, and while the ranks were in the vicinity of the ‘Line Top’ area, they observed two men, both clad in dark-coloured clothing. At the time, one of the men was allegedly armed with an object, scuffling with two females whom they appeared to be robbing.
One of the ranks immediately discharged a round with intent to stop the robbery and during this, the armed suspect dropped an object on the roadway, while his accomplice and the two females ran away.
The ranks immediately approached the man, who dropped the object and it was observed that it was a firearm. The ranks immediately arrested the 29-year-old suspect who is from B Field Sophia.
He was taken to the Kitty Police Station where the firearm and one round of ammunition were lodged.
Efforts are being made to contact the female victims as investigations continue.
Meanwhile, on Sunday at 03:20h, acting on information received, Police went to a house in Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown, where a 43-year-old miner was observed standing in front of the house, and upon seeing the Police, he attempted to escape.
Police gave chase and the suspect was apprehended. A search was carried out on his person and a brown .38 Smith and Wesson revolver along with two live matching rounds of ammunition were found in his left side pants waist.
He was escorted to Brickdam Police Station where he remains, pending charges.
