Cops recover several cars during another chop shop raid
As Police continue to make stringent efforts to put a dent in the carjacking ring, which has been attacking and robbing persons of their motor cars since last year, six more persons have been arrested.
According to A Division (Georgetown-East Bank Demerara) Police, several cars and canter trucks were on Monday night seized at Kuru Kururu, Linden-Soesdyke Highway.
Additionally, about 03:00h, investigators swooped down on a workshop in Yarrowkabra, where two motor cars, along with a canter truck loaded with the shell of a silver Toyota Spacio vehicle and a quantity of vehicle parts, were found.
The truck is reportedly registered to a Barr Street, Kitty resident and all of the items are believed to have been stolen or unlawfully obtained. The items were seized and lodged.
The registration number found on the truck has been reportedly written off by an insurance company.
Meanwhile, on Sunday last, Police were able to recover the front of two silver Allion motor cars in an empty lot at Swan, Linden-Soesdyke Highway.
The vehicles were reportedly cut in half and completely stripped without their chassis number.
Moreover, the Police also recovered a crashed gold Spacio motor car without its licence plate and chassis number in the same lot.
Additionally, on Saturday last, Police in A Division received information and swooped down on a Monument Hill, Kuru Kururu property where a search conducted saw a quantity of vehicle parts and several vehicles suspected to have been stolen or unlawfully obtained being discovered.
Five persons – an ex-policeman and four females – have since been taken into custody and have been said to be assisting with the investigation.
Ranks of the Force’s Major Crimes Unit also arrested a couple at their Vryheid’s Lust North, East Coast Demerara (ECD) home after a quantity of Allion, Premio and Spacio parts with engraved numbers were found on their premises.
As of December 2017, more than 30 vehicles were reported stolen to the Police over a seven-month period, including five Toyota Allion motor cars, 12 Toyota Premios, three Carina 212s and one Toyota Spacio.
