Corentyne man who threatened to kill wife arrested

A 27-year-old man is now in Police custody after he allegedly assaulted his wife at their Number 64 Village, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) home.
Reports are on Monday the man and his brother were at the home consuming alcohol when he called out to his wife and asked her if she was “looking out for her lover”.
The 27-year-old woman, according to the Police, did not respond to her husband and remained silent.
This resulted in the man grabbing the woman by her hair, and dealing her several punches to the head. The man then pushed his finger into the woman’s eye as he threatened to kill her.
On the following day, the woman sought medical attention at a health centre. According to the Police, the nurse reported the matter after she questioned the victim about her injuries.
Ranks of the Number 51 Village Police Station went to the home of the suspect and arrested him.
When they arrived, it was also revealed that about a month ago, the man chopped his wife on her hand.
The suspect remains in Police custody as the probe continues.
More than a month ago, Region Six Sports Officer Godwin Allicock was sent to jail for assaulting his reputed wife, Vanetta Thomas, who is the Deputy Regional Executive Officer (DREO).
It was revealed that Allicock used threatening language to Thomas while being armed with two knives. Following the incident, Thomas went to the Police Station to make a report. It was in the presence of Police Officers that he whipped out the two knives and allegedly made other threats to Thomas.
The woman was taken to a safe location as the officers tried to disarm Allicock. He was arrested some time after he left the Police Station.
He was later sentenced to three months in prison for the assault. (G9)
