Corentyne taxi driver in custody for allegedly raping 14-year-old

A Corentyne taxi driver has been taken into Police custody for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl.
Police Divisional Commander Senior Superintendent Shivpersaud Bacchus has confirmed that an investigation is underway in respect to the rape of a child under the age of 16, which allegedly occurred on Friday, September 9, on the Corentyne.
It was only on Friday that Commander Bacchus reported that there were 24 reported cases of rape in that division so far for the year. That figure equals the figure for the corresponding period last year.
Rape has been the highest individual crime committed in the region so far for this year.
