..girlfriend hospitalised after suicide attempt
A Corentyne, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) taxi driver, who was reportedly involved in a triangular love affair allegedly took his own life after ingesting a poisonous substance.

The dead man has been identified as 24-year-old Maynauth Sewlall called “Alex” of Lot 50 Adventure, Corentyne. He reportedly died on Saturday while receiving medical attention at the Port Mourant Hospital.
Based on reports received, the young man took ill on June 12 and would have lost control of the car he was driving and ended up in a trench. He was reportedly pulled from the car but at the time, he could not speak. Based on his behaviour, persons thought that he was under the influence of alcohol.

He was taken to the Port Mourant Hospital where tests conducted revealed that he had no alcohol in his system.
“They didn’t find anything but they still treat him with saline and other medication,” his father, Kishore Sewlall, told Guyana Times.
He was subsequently discharged from the medical facility but was readmitted one week later when his throat became inflamed. After several tests were conducted, a poisonous substance was detected.
As a result, he was transferred to the New Amsterdam Hospital where he was admitted and treated.
