Corona, Petra partner for lucrative fustal tournament

– motorbike to be awarded to MVP, patron

Top Brandz Distributors under their popular Corona Beer and Petra Organisation have joined forces to host a cash-filled futsal tournament which gets cracking on February 24 and concludes on Easter Saturday (March 31) at the National Gymnasium.
The organisers had partnered with previous brands in their previous two editions but the third has surpassed those on a financial front.

At the launch on Thursday at the distributors’ Broad Street location, Co-Director of the organising body Troy Mendonca disclosed the lucrative allure of the tournament, stating the winning purse will be $600,000 and the championship trophy. Second to fourth will take home $300,000, $150,000 and $75,000 along with the corresponding accolades.
Mendonca also highlighted the growth of the teams which they began engaging 10 years ago and the organisation of the teams embodies the concept that sport fosters social cohesion.
The sweet of the pudding comes in form of two motor cycles which specifications will be revealed at a later date; one will be awarded to the Most Valuable Player (MVP) and the other to a lucky spectator.
More so, with 24 of the top teams being split into six groups of four, the battle will not be just to progress to the knock-out stages but cop the group prizes; $40,000 for first place team, $30,000, $20,000 and $10,000 will be awarded to second to fourth-place group teams.
Marketing and Promotions Manager Marvin Wray contented there was no issue in partnering with Petra due to their stellar work on previous tournaments. Wray also stated they aim of the company is not just to build a sale relationship with customers but help develop their communities.
Likewise, Sales Manager Rishi Rampersaud echoed similar sentiments to Wray, stating “this year is focused on community development and this tournament will start that concept on the right track and patrons can look forward to more initiatives like this in the future”. He also all urged all to come out and support the teams.
The participating teams come from Alpha Warriors, Pro Kleaners Campbellville, Showstoppers, Mocha, Agricola, Plaisance , Sparta Boss, Old Skool Ballers, Leopold Street, Albouystown, Kingstown, North East La Penitence, Back Circle, West Front Road, North Ruimveldt, Tiger Bay, Broad Street, Channel Warriors, Bent Street, Tucville, Alexander Village, Future Stars, NK Ballers and Sophia.
