Cort reigns supreme at Junior Calypso Monarch

From a line-up of nine young and talented Calypsonians, 20-year-old T’Shanna Cort, a public management student at the University of Guyana was on Saturday last crowned Junior Calypso Monarch when the competition was held at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall. Her rendition was titled                                                                                                              “Where the innocence gone”.
Coming in second was Paul Clarke with his rendition about the “2017 Budget”. He was also adjudged the Best Newcomer. Sharing a tie for third spot were Ryan Jagnarine with his piece “Simply the Best” and Niomi Alsopp with her song encouraging all to put down the gun which will ultimately end gun crime.

The winner of the junior competition will participate in the senior leg of the competition which gets underway on Saturday, February 11, with the semi-final at the MacKenzie Sports Club Ground. The final is set for February 17 at Demerara Park.  It is expected that at least 10 competitors will be vying for the title and over $2 million. For the first time in the competition, a chutney category was added. Those expected to vie in the category are Stephen Ramphal, Chaitsoing Mohanlall and Parsasram Singh.
Those in the category include Diana Chapman, Manoel Pereira, Onika Joseph and Winfield James.
