Couple charged for defrauding church

A couple were made answerable to the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on Friday after they defraud a place of worship – a Full Gospel church.
Kevin Smith, 34, and Tamika Times, 25, both of 76 Duncan Street, Kitty, Georgetown, denied the allegation made against them.

September 30, 2017, in Georgetown, they robbed Naz Ramit and Claire Thomas of $1000 each by pretending that they were collecting funds on behalf of the children feeding programme of the Full Gospel Church.
According to Prosecutor Shawn Gonsalves, the defendants were on Cummings Street, Georgetown handing out donation forms when the two Virtual Complainants (VCs) made their donations.
However, when the defendants attempted to do the same to another person, it was observed by him that the forms were without stamps.
This was reported to the Police who arrested the couple, and investigations revealed that they were committing fraud. As such, the man and pregnant woman were both charged with the offence.
They were granted $20,000 bail on each charge and were expected to reappear in court on October 20, 2017.
