A male and a female who were accused of having a quantity of narcotics in their possession were granted bail by Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus when they appeared at the Providence Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
Thirty-year-old Niketa Bishop, a cosmetologist; and Jammal Eastman, 24, a rank attacked to the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), denied the charge which alleged that on November 21, 2018, at Lot 1212 Diamond Grove, East Bank Demerara, they had 380 grams of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.
The defendants were represented by Attorney Bernard DaSliva who in his application for bail told the court that the illegal drug was found in a building which Bishop rented and not in the possession of the couple. He further stated that the place is open to the public.
Magistrate Isaacs-Marcus however granted the duo their pre-trial liberty of bail in the sum $100,000 each, and they are expected to make their next court appearance on December 17.
