A couple involved in the trafficking of two women were Tuesday arraigned before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts and released on 0 000 bail each by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
Facing the courts for the first time were Mohadashau Thomas and Kenisha Hill, who were both represented by Attorney-at-Law Paul Fung-A-Fat.
Guyana Times had recently reported that two women were rescued on the Essequibo Coast, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), when the Police in collaboration with the Trafficking in Persons (TIP) unit, Conducted a raid in the region. Subsequently, the two women were taken to Suddie Public Hospital for a medical examination.
One of the accused is reportedly a popular shop’s proprietor while the other is a speedboat operator from Supenaam. It is alleged that the duo lured the two females at Airy Hall, Essequibo Coast and forced them to work at a local bar.
The matter was transferred to Suddie Magistrate’s Court where it will continue on March 17, 2017.
