Couples nabbed with ganja, firearm and ammunition during Police operations

A quantity of ganja, a firearm, and rounds of ammunition were found during Police operations conducted at Betsy Ground, East Canje, Berbice and at Bagotstown Public Road, East Bank Demerara (EBD) respectively on Monday and Wednesday.

The cannabis that was found at East Canje, Berbice

The Police have said that a 25-year-old male and a 19-year-old female were arrested on Monday at Betsy Ground, East Canje Berbice with 178 grams of cannabis in their possession.
Acting on information received, Police went to the home of the couple and conducted a search in their bedroom. They found a black plastic bag hanging on the wall, and when inspected, the bag was found to contain a quantity of ganja. The suspects were told of the offence committed, cautioned, arrested, and taken to the Central Police Station along with the cannabis.
The narcotic was weighed in their presence and amounted to 178 grams. They were placed in custody, pending charges.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday at about 8:30h, law enforcement officers found a black 9mm pistol with magazine, five live 9mm rounds of ammunition, and 80 grams of cannabis on a 34-year-old man and his wife along the Bagotstown Public Road.

The cannabis that was found at East Canje, Berbice

Police who were on mobile patrol reportedly gave chase to a white Toyota Axio (registration number PYY 4135), which was eventually intercepted at Bagotstown.
The driver identified himself along with his wife, who was in the car at the time. A search was conducted on the vehicle in their presence, and a black 9mm pistol along with a magazine were found.
In addition, a black plastic bag containing the ganja and five live rounds of 9mm ammunition was found.
Asked to produce their firearm and ammunition licence, they could not do so. Accordingly, the couple were told of the offences committed, cautioned, arrested, and escorted to the Ruimveldt Police Station, where they were placed in custody pending charges.
