Court regular remanded for stealing from woman

Rico Persaud is back before a magistrate for allegedly stealing a woman’s belongings. He has a lengthy history of court appearances related to theft.
Persaud, 28, a labourer of Perseverance, East Bank Demerara (EBD), was brought before Sparendaam Magistrate Ruschelle Liverpool on Monday to answer a charge of simple larceny, committed on October 2 contrary to Section 164 of the Criminal Law Offences Act, Chapter 8:01.
He pleaded not guilty to stealing the belongings of Rohanie Persaud, and has been remanded to prison until November 23.
Persaud has been appearing in court ever since he was first accused of trying to break into a Georgetown office building in 2016. In 2017, he was accused of many charges of simple larceny involving the theft of a laptop computer and several cell phones. In 2018, he was
accused of breaking into the Agriculture Ministry at Vlissengen and Regent Road, Bourda and taking $5,000.
There are reports that he had been sentenced to nine months in prison for theft of the cell phones; however, this publication was unable to independently confirm the legal status of those matters. (G1)
