Courts give generously to GPF Championship

Courts (Guyana) Inc. donated 0,000 worth in trophies to the annual Guyana Police Force Athletic and Swimming Championship slated for July 24-29. The presentation ceremony took place at the furniture giant’s flagship store at Main Street Georgetown on Thursday.

Public Relations Officer of Courts (Guyana) Inc, Roberta Ferguson noted that Courts has always been committed to developing sports in Guyana.

Finance Director of Courts Guyana Inc., Neil Boucher, indicated that this donation was part and parcel of the company’s social partner’s project.

Boucher informed the gathering that the company recognizes the importance of having these kinds of activities.

“You know the police’s motto is to protect and serve but you still need an all round police force and we see sports as an integral part in that aspect of it.”

Assistant Co-coordinator for the Guyana Police Force, Officer Linden Wilson thanked the entire company for their contribution in making the competition a success.

“I want to extend thanks to the company for their contribution to make our sports a beautiful one, one that we can always talk about.”

The Assistant Co-ordinator added that this is a special year since there will be overseas athletes namely from other Caribbean nations.

The championship is expected to commence on Sunday with a road race at 06:00h and then move to the National Aquatic Centre for swimming at 10:00h to close the day. The three following days are reserved for the track and field events at the Police Sports Club Ground, eve Leary. The featured events are the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m and 1500m races.
