Cousins charged for narcotics, bribing cop

Two cousins were arrested and placed before the court on Thursday to answer charges for separate offences.
Charged are Wilwert Watts, 35, of Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, and Earl Goodheart,44, also of Turkeyen.

Charged: Wilwert Watts and Earl Goodheart

Police said Goodheart was arrested at Craig, East Bank Demerara (EBD) on Monday last by ranks after being found in possession of five grams of narcotics.
He was later charged for committing the offence of possession of narcotics contrary to Section 4 (1a1) of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Control Act, Chapter 10:10.
He appeared at the Diamond Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Judy Latchman, and pleaded guilty. He was sentenced to a fine of $20,000 cash and three weeks’ community service.
Watts, on the other hand, was hauled before the courts for attempting to bribe a Police Officer after which he was granted $20,000 bail.
Reports are Watts was arrested shortly after he attempted to bribe the officer attached to the Grove Police Station, EBD, with $40,000 to have the matter against his cousin Goodheart dropped.
As a result, the suspect was immediately told of the offence committed, cautioned, arrested, and placed in custody.
Following the man’s arrest, an investigation was done which resulted in the charge of Corrupt Transaction with Agent contrary to Section 337 (2b) of the Criminal Law (Offence) Act, Chapter 8:01 being laid against him.
He also appeared at the Diamond Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Latchman, who read the charge to him and he pleaded not guilty. His next court appearance will be October 20, 2021. (G9)
