COVID-19 cases spike in Regions 1, 2, 7, 10

…2 more unvaccinated deaths, 52 new cases

Deaths from the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) have moved to 842, after another two persons died from the virus.
The latest fatalities are a 63-year-old woman from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica) and an 88-year-old man from Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara). Both persons were unvaccinated. For the month of October, deaths have leaped to 45 thus far.
From the Health Ministry’s updated dashboard, the number of new cases stood at 52. Total confirmed cases have reached 33,748 – 15,969 men and 17,779 women.
There are 29 persons in the specialised Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 145 in institutional isolation, 3728 in home isolation and three in institutional quarantine. The number of recoveries now stands at 29,004. To date, 333,153 persons were swabbed.
Active COVID-19 cases stand at 3916 – 122 of whom are currently hospitalised. The Infectious Diseases Hospital currently houses 83 cases.
Regionally, there were two new cases in Region One (Barima-Waini); 10 in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam); eight in Region Three; 21 in Region Four; five in Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne); two in Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni), and four in Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice).
No positive cases emerged from Regions Five (Mahaica-Berbice), Eight (Pomeroon-Supenaam) and Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo), and their figures remained unchanged.

Spikes
Even as active cases reduce slightly in Region Four, there have been spikes in other administrative regions.
“The numbers have been coming down because last week, we were trending at approximately 2000 cases in Region Four. That has come down a little bit, so we’re now at 1710 cases. There’s a slight decrease in Region Four. However, we see an increase in Region Two. That’s creeping up. In Region 10, the numbers are going up and in Region Seven; and we have seen a slight increase in Region One,” according to Health Minister, Dr Frank Anthony on Monday.
The hotspots are Wakapao (53) in Region Two; Tuschen (94), Parfaite Harmonie (62), Crane (57), Vreed-en-Hoop (54), Zeelugt (53), Pouderoyen (52), Cornelia Ida (52), Hague (47), Parika (47), and La Grange (42) in Region Three; Diamond (90), Grove (73), Herstelling (32), Soesdyke (31), Eccles (30), Mon Repos (32), Victoria (31) and Nonpareil (27) in Region Four.
Specifically in Georgetown, all wards continue to see increases but areas of concern are Sophia (76), Kitty (45), Campbellville (39), Lodge (37), South Ruimveldt (35), Alberttown (32) and West Ruimveldt (31).
Spikes were reported in New Amsterdam (28) in Region Six; Bartica (79) in Region Seven; Mahdia (19) and Tiger Creek (14) in Region Eight; Aishalton (20) in Region Nine; and Wismar (62) and Amelia’s Ward (32) in Region 10.
