COVID-19 isolation tents set up in Moruca

Several ‘isolation tents’ have been established at Sheba Ground in Moruca, Region One (Barima-Waini) where there is an outbreak of COVID-19.
The tents include a fully automatic motion sensor sanitising station, which cleans your entire body within 10-20 seconds, according to the Department of Public Information (DPI).

As of 14:00h on June 24, there were an alarming 43 positive COVID-19 cases in Moruca while there was one positive case in Mabaruma, bringing the total cases in the Region to 44.
Teachers represent a significant proportion of those infected with the life-threatening virus in Moruca.
In light of a steady increase in cases in that district, the National COVID-19 Task Force has since announced emergency measures for the region.
The enhanced containment measures will include cease-work orders for specific areas in the mining sector, screening, wider testing, and more checkpoints.
Meanwhile, Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Dr Shamdeo Persaud on Wednesday noted that Moruca was the epicentre for Region One and, therefore, it was important for all residents in that sub-district to be on guard.
“We are urging you to support the health team in this area by coming forward for testing if you have been in contact with anyone who has tested positive, by staying home unless it is necessary for you to come out, and if you must come out ensure that your nose and mouth are covered,” the CMO urged.
He further asked that there be no congregating of persons and that all passenger vehicles adhere to the guidelines that were provided.
Additionally, Toshaos and Village Councillors were asked for their cooperation to ensure villagers were following the guidelines provided.
