CPL Final ‘watch party’ to be hosted at D’Urban Park
Although many will not have the opportunity to be there physically, Guyanese cricket fans who are eager to see the Guyana Amazon Warriors bring home their first Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) title will be able to view the final on the big screen.

The watch party is being hosted by the Ministry of the Presidency’s Department of Social Cohesion and is expected to bring together Guyanese from all walks of life, for a night of festivities. The local watch party will be hosted at D’Urban Park, Georgetown.
While explaining the Government’s social cohesion agenda, Social Cohesion Minister with responsibility for sport, Dr George Norton spoke on the unity that sport creates.
“Sport, particularly cricket, usually fuels an environment of unity and pride. We want to capitalise on this CPL season and give our people a safe space to come together and support our Warriors,” he stated.
The Minister went on to express hope that Guyana could some day host the final blockbuster event. Additionally, Dr Norton has assured that all measures, including security, would be put in place to ensure that the game was enjoyed with optimal pomp and the usual exhilaration displayed by Guyanese.
“Hopefully, in the near future, Guyana will be able to host the CPL finals, but for now, we still want to create an environment where our people can physically come together with their fellow Guyanese who will be just as ecstatic and fervent about every wicket and every boundary the Warriors make this Saturday,” the Social Cohesion Minister posited.
On Saturday, October 12, the Guyana Amazon Warriors will play their fifth CPL final in the seven-year tournament, signalling the team’s consistency. The Warriors have dominated the competition this year, having won all 10 of their preliminary matches and the first qualifier game, which saw them automatically advancing to the final at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Toruba, Trinidad and Tobago. Guyana’s opponents will be decided on Thursday, October 10, when the Barbados Tridents battle the Trinbago Knight Riders for the other final spot.
