Crandon stars for Dant in OSCL final

Dant claimed an exciting 10-run victory over nemesis Sunshine on Saturday at Ashtonbee Park, Scarborough, Toronto where the 2018 Ontario Softball Cricket League (OSCL) 10-over competition climaxed.

Former Guyana and West Indies One-Day International versatile all-rounder Royston Crandon

Dant, who have been dominating the League’s three formats this season thus far, won the toss and opted to bat first. They then set up a challenging 91-7 upon the expiration of the 10 overs.
They also bowled well on a day blessed with glorious sunshine as they restricted Sunshine to 81-5.
Former Guyana and West Indies One-Day International versatile all-rounder Royston Crandon hit a responsible 41 for Dant which included three sixes and a four.
The right-handed Crandon also featured in a steady 39-run fourth-wicket stand with ex-Guyana First-Class skipper Damodar Daesarth, who contributed 14 runs.
Veteran bowler Bobby Pararsnauth was on target throughout his two-over spell conceding only four runs and grabbing two wickets while Anil Mahadeo supported with two wickets as well which cost him 29 runs from two overs.
When Sunshine batted, they began things nicely racking up 36 runs from just four overs, but there was a setback after three quick wickets, leaving them to get 20 runs from two overs. Azam Haniff scored 21 while Imran Ali also showed fine form with an attacking 18. Satrohan Balkarran claimed two wickets for six runs from two frugal overs as well while Bholonauth Bunty accounted for a victim during his two-over stint that went for nine runs.
Crandon was later named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) for his attractive innings. In the consolation game that was played simultaneously, Rems got the better of Enmore Sports Club by 26 runs. In the Conference B championship game, GTA Storm humbled Restoration Warriors while Wakenaam defeated Carr Tec.
At the presentation ceremony just after the games, OSCL President Albert Ramcharran expressed appreciation to the teams that took part in the competition and also thanked the main sponsor for the 10-over tournament that began two months ago. The main sponsor is Hari Sukhu of Caribbean Sensation. Ramcharran, who has been a founding member of the League which was formed just over two decades ago, also declared that a team would be picked soon to represent the League at the upcoming Guyana Cup softball tournament.
Meanwhile, the Norman Sue-Bakery 15-over final is slated for this weekend at the same venue. Sunshine will be opposing Better Hope on this occasion commencing at 09:00h. (Ravi Madholall)
