Crawford Memorial Turf Club gears up for President’s Cup

The Crawford Memorial Turf Club of Alness Village, Corentyne Berbice has had a successful horse meet on November 17, 2019, and will be gearing up to stage the President’s Cup horse meet in February 2020.

Orion will be back in action in the President’s Cup

This event promises to be bigger and better than its predecessor events, with more lucrative prizes being at stake than in the previous meets held in years past. It is thus expected to have participation of some of the top horses in Guyana.
In 2019, Goodwill Boy piloted by jockey Ronaldo Appadu defied all odds to clinch the feature event, the Alness Classic, and pocket the winner’s purse of $240,000. In that race, Goodwill Boy defeated such big names as Gold Again and Miss Olympic.
Come this February, these horses will again be locked in competition as proverbial dark horses seek to dethrone Goodwill Boy. To add to the excitement, the famous mount Orion of the Crawford Stables will be back in action as well.
Speaking with Guyana Times Sport, President of the Crawford Memorial Turf Club, Marcel Crawford Jnr, has said: “I am very confident that this meet will be a success, as we have some of Guyana’s top horses participating. I am extremely proud of Orion, who originates from the Crawford Stables. He has been training hard, and is most likely expected to come out on top in his event. Thus far, he has only lost a few races, and that was when he was still fresh, recovering from his injury.
“He has dominated all his other races, and I am confident that he will dominate his races (in this meet).”
Crawford has said he would like to thank all the fans and sponsors who have supported him over the many years, and is appealing to everyone to come and support the meet slated for February.
