Juban Crawford in a time of one hour, fifty-one minutes (1:51), has won the United Republican Party (URP) 45-mile Caricom road race held on Monday in Berbice.
Crawford continued to show that he is the number one rider in Berbice. He received good support from his teammates to ensure that Trojan Cycle Club claims the top four positions at the end of the event.
The second place went to Brian Harris ahead of Sammy Mottoo, Andrew Green and Syborne Fernandez finishing in that order.
All five riders along with Franko and Romello Crawford stayed together from the starting point at Friendship Village, Corentyne but when they reached New Amsterdam, Crawford pulled away leaving the quartet behind as the riders rode against the strong Corentyne wing heading back the Friendship for the finish.
Mootoo and Harris soon left the other two and started closing the gap on Crawford but the paste was too much for Mootoo. He allowed Harris to travel sole to catch the leader and when he did Crawford made no fuss about it. The race was decided in the last two hundred meters in a sprint to the finish line.
Mootoo rode in as a loner.
Crawford claimed four of the eight sprint point prizes up for grabs; two went to Khan and one each to Mootoo and Romello Crawford.
In the juvenile category, national champion Zamal Khan was the first to cross the finish line with Tameshwar Danhai second ahead of Damien Bowman and Kenwin Collins in that order.
For the females, Shenika Teixeira rode in ahead of Whitney Poyer.
