Well, today’s the day…Independence Day!! And your Eyewitness thinks if YOU don’t think we’re finally gaining some real Independence, then something really gotta be wrong with your head!! Some say that “man can’t live by bread alone” – but if he doesn’t have bread – he can’t live at all!! As he’s been writing all week, your Eyewitness believes when it comes to being independent, if a country can’t have a firm economic base for its people to earn what it takes to live a good life, then you’re just existing, not living!!
So, let’s start from the bottom – with what Burnham used to call the “small man” who was to be made into the “real man”!! And we gotta look at that word “make”! The country can’t “make” you into anything!! It can create conditions that allow YOU to make yourself into what YOU want!! So, let’s start with jobs – which allows you to at least buy bread!! Right now, there’s no one who can say they can’t get a job if they want one!! It mightn’t be a job where you tool around in a Mercedes – but if the job can put food on the table you can start from there and develop yourself!
Today education ain’t just free to high school – with the GOAL program you can earn ANY tertiary degree your heart desires!! And with the BIT and other technical programs you can have a go at the jobs opening up in the industries that need to use your hands as well as your brains!! Then there’s all the help for entrepreneurs to create businesses– not only with training but with the critical factor of funding with the launching of a Development Bank that just asks for a business plan!! And the businesses ain’t just ones like launching Data Centers or spaceships like that Trillionaire Musk fella – but in shade farms, hydroponics and even good, old fashioned growing stuff in the ground!! Not to mention agrobusinesses!
Not that there wouldn’t be opportunities in the high-tech field. The government has attracted a Multibillion Data Center– with the stipulation that it trains Guyanese in all aspects of delivering AI services for the Caribbean and northern South America!! So today, let us all as Guyanese put our shoulder to the wheel and make our independence real. The opportunities are there – but it’s up to “we the people” to do it, Countries aren’t “independent” – it’s the people who live in those countries who’re independent – or not!!
It’s been a long time comin’. We always had bountiful resources – but today we have a government that’s using our share of the resources to empower us for the small man to finally become the real man!! Happy Independence Day!!
…the Coloniser
Now on our Independence Day, we can spare a thought for Old Blighty – our erstwhile masters!! And we see that a superpower’s work is never done…and it’s a thankless job!! Think about it. When the they were the world’s superpower, they had to look after so many countries the globe – speckled red to signal their responsibilities!! That’s right…we natives just couldn’t get our act together – and the po’ long-suffering Brits had to take up what they stoically called “the white man burden”.
Imagine bearing the burden of more than a quarter of the world’s population!! You think it’s easy to ship out stuff WE produced and then use the money to build up their own economy – since we didn’t know how to live in luxury?? The burdens…the burdens!! Yet some ingrate snarkily explained that the expression “the sun never sets on the British Empire” was because if it did set, then the Brits would’ve loot them even more!!
Neemakharams, that’s what such people are!!
…order
On the Nimitz, Pressie would’ve seen teams with color-coded shirts – Yellow – aircraft directors; Green – catapult and maintenance crews; Purple – fuel handlers; Red-ordnance crews; Blue – plane handlers/chocks and White -safety and medical.
Idea for Ministries’ staff??
