… V-net joins forces with GCA for U-13 league

V–net Communications among other sponsors have joined with the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) to stage an under-13 league commencing on April 7.
The entity which brandishes itself as the home of satellite communications in Guyana have carried their level of activity in social development from Wakenaam to Georgetown under the theme, “ Cricket Our Game, Our Culture”.
“I see our involvement in this event as not being just a sponsor but rather an investment in the future of our cricket”, Chief Executive Officer of V-Net Communications Safraz Sherifffuden told the gathering at the launch on Friday evening at their 25 Delph Street Campbellville location.

He further elaborated, “I believe sports are an essential part of any child’s upbringing as it instils the core value of discipline, team work, safety, respect and integrity”.
GCA President Roger Harper expressed his gratitude for the tremendous support of the sponsors and posited the league will help unearth new talents for Guyana and in turn Windies since it is at this tender age the focus must be place on budding cricketers.
Structured to allow involvement by all, First-Vice-President of the GCA Neil Barry gave an overview of how the fourth attempt of the tournament will be played.
“They bat in pairs; each pair will bat five overs if it is an 25-over per side match. Teams are gifted 200 runs at the start but every time a wicket is loss so is five runs and every run scored is added to the total.”
He added, “You must bat the allotted overs in which you can get as much times but batting the allotted overs is necessary. We are trying to teach them about the basics of the game”.
Brand Ambassador and Windies all-rounder Keemo Paul via video messaged urged the young players to make full use of the opportunity and strive to be discipline.
The seven participating teams are Demerara Cricket Club, Georgetown Cricket Club, Ghandi Youth Organisation, Transport Sports Club, Queen’s College, Diplomats and Everest Cricket Club.
Cash prizes and trophies will be awarded compliments of additional sponsors such as Cerulean Inc, Guyana Trading Company, Eco Atlantic International Investment Inc and Give Another Chance Foundation.
Matches will predominantly be played at YMCA ground on Thomas Lands and the Muslim Youth Organisation on Woolford Avenue from 09:30h. The top two teams will advance to the final on June 2. The league is for players born on or after June 1, 2005. (Akeem Greene)
