A 25-year-old Cuban was on Wednesday taken before the court of law to answer to the charge of overstaying in Guyana.
Gilbert Lopez appeared before Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts. He admitted that between February 23 and November 7, 2018, he failed to comply with the conditions of his permit to stay in Guyana from January 23, 2018 to February 22, 2018 – that is he overstayed in the country.
In a plea of mitigation, Lopez told the court that he has been residing in Mahaica, working to obtain money to return to his country. He was fined $30,000. Failure to pay the fine will result in him having to serve three months in prison.
