Police are investigating a murder that occurred on Sunday at a business place on Foreshaw Street, Queenstown, Georgetown, which resulted in the death of a 23-year-old Cuban national.
Dead is Dainier Vegas Infante, who was employed as a janitor at the business place and a resident of Alexander Village, Georgetown
Preliminary investigations indicate that Infante was at the business place at about at about 05:45h when four males arrived in the area. Reports suggest that one of the suspects, who was armed with a handgun, approached two men who were seated outside the establishment and engaged them in conversation.
It is alleged that the deceased later exited the building and approached the group, at which point the armed suspect discharged a round in his direction. Infante was struck and fell to the ground.
The suspect then entered a motor vehicle and fled the scene along Foreshaw Street. The other suspects also escaped in separate vehicles. A doctor pronounced Infante dead at the scene and his body was subsequently transported to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
Police further stated that, through coordinated efforts by the Guyana Police Force Command Center, a motor vehicle believed to be linked to the incident was identified and intercepted. As a result, a 45-year-old female manager from Little Diamond, East Bank Demerara, was arrested and is currently in police custody. The vehicle has been seized and is being processed as part of the investigation.
CCTV footage from the area is being reviewed as police investigations continue.
