A cutlass-wielding bandit who robbed a businessman of his cellphone and some cash has reportedly dropped the stolen articles in his bid to escape.
Police reported that the incident occurred on Thursday at around 20:30h at a bar located in the Tuschen New Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo (EBE).
Reports are that the 40-year-old businessman was closing his bar when the suspect walked in, pretending to be a customer, and asked to make a purchase.
The businessman told Police he informed the man that he was closed, and the man then whipped out a cutlass from his pants waist and dealt the businessman a chop to his right hand, causing him to receive injuries.
According to Police, the bandit then pushed his hand into the businessman’s pants pocket and removed his iPhone 6, valued at $45,000, and $30,000 in cash, before jumping the back fence of the business premises and making good his escape in a northerly direction.
However, in the process, he dropped stolen articles, which were recovered by the victim at the back of his yard.
Following the suspect’s escape, the businessman raised an alarm, and the Police were called. He was taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital, where he was treated.
Police have since launched an investigation. (G9)
