Cutlass wielding bandit shot

…after robbing Republic Bank’s security

A Lodge, Princes Street, Georgetown man who attempted to rob a Republic Bank Limited (RBL) employee was early Friday morning shot in his leg.
Reports are the 27-year-old man jumped the bank’s Waterloo Street office fence at about 05:15h and attacked a 35-year-old female security guard by choking her.
At the time, the woman was only carrying her phone worth $35,000 which the thief snatched from her hand and escaped. However, an alarm was raised and other RBL security personnel ran to her assistance. They pursued the man to Carmichael Street, where he drew a cutlass and attacked the guards in pursuit. As such, one of the guards shot him in the leg. The stolen phone was retrieved and the bandit was handed over to the Police.
He was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was treated for the wound and placed in Police custody.
The female security guard was also treated and sent away. The Police are investigating.
