Cutlass-wielding bandits rob Canje woman

Thirty-three-year-old Nazeema Bacchus of East Canje, Berbice, is now counting her loses after she was robbed by two armed bandits on Saturday at Welfare Street, East Canje, Berbice, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne).
The incident is said to have occurred at about 19:00h.
According to information received, Bacchus was in the vicinity of Welfare Street when a motor car bearing registration number HD 183 with two men executed the robbery on her. One of the suspects was armed with a cutlass.
In efforts to raise an alarm, Bacchus began to scream but she was instructed to remain silent by the armed men.
The men then proceeded to take her passport, two ID cards, two bank cards, $6000 in cash and her mobile phone.
The bandits also escaped with a bag containing fruits and vegetables. The matter was reported and the Police have launched an investigation.
Recently, several persons and homes were robbed by armed men. In October last, four gunmen robbed a home at East Canefield New Area, East Canje, Berbice.
The men had escaped with $70,000, one watch and two gold earrings along with a quantity of artificial jewellery.
It was reported that the victim and his wife were at their neighbour’s home when he saw two of the four suspects entering the lower flat of their house through an open door.
Upon seeing the men, the victim immediately rushed to his house and was confronted by two of the bandits, who he dealt several lashes with a piece of wood. The two men ran away, leaving their accomplices in the house.
However, the remaining armed suspects immediately discharged a round and they too fled the scene.
