CWI could host entire Regional 4-Day tournament in Antigua – Perreira

With Cricket West Indies (CWI) facing financial problems, the next edition of the Regional Four-Day tournament could be hosted in one country only.
According to veteran cricket commentator Joseph “Reds” Perreira, the entire tournament could be hosted in Antigua and Barbuda.
Perreira highlighted that all indications point to a single territory hosting the entire tournament during April 2026, with the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, the Antigua Recreation Ground (ARG) , and the Coolidge Cricket Ground identified as the primary venues.
According to Perreira, condensing the tournament to one host nation is a practical cost-saving measure that allows CWI to stage the competition without placing additional strain on its budget.

The Guyana team are a dominant force in Regional 4-Day cricket

“Since the ARG has been closed to cricket, it has been a football venue. The Antiguan Government was asked to see if they can get it back to first-class level for next year’s Regional Four-Day tournament. There is a possibility that some of the better games will be played there. It should bring the life of the ARG in 2026.”
By basing all teams in Antigua and Barbuda, CWI is expected to significantly reduce expenditure related to inter-island flights and long-term lodging while also simplifying logistical planning for teams, officials, and broadcasters.
Perreira welcomed the move, describing it as a sensible and necessary step given the current economic climate.
“I think the move to ask the Antiguan Government to help with preparing the old Test ground is a good one. It is well-positioned, close to the city of St John’s , and we may see some decent crowds attending the first-class games in 2026 once the price is attractive,” he said.
The Guyana Harpy Eagles have won the championship for the past three seasons.
