CWI Regional 4-Day Championships: Hurricanes lead the Eagles by 250 runs after day two
The Leeward Islands Hurricanes continued to reign supreme over the Guyana Harpy Eagles on day two of the second round of Cricket West Indies’ Regional Four-Day Championships, held at the Queen’s Park Oval in the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago.
After blowing away the Harpy Eagles for 116 on day one, the Hurricanes ended day two on 366-5 after 136 overs, and now lead the Eagles by 250 runs.
Resuming the day’s play on 126-0, openers Montcin Hodge and Kieran Powell failed to convert starts into centuries. Powell made 74 from 148 balls, which had nine fours, while his partner Hodge made 71 from 299 balls, with six fours. The duo featured in a 152-run stand, while Devon Thomas came and played his shots in his 72 from 72 balls, which had ten fours and one six.
Thomas, who scored a century in the first round against Barbados Pride, was dropped on 13 at first slip by Leon Johnson, but the right-hander went on to play an attacking innings. Thomas featured in an 85-run second wicket partnership with Hodge.
Kofi James came and went quickly for 11, while Jahmar Hamilton (48) and Terrance Ward (46*) added 85 more runs for the fifth wicket.
The Harpy Eagles toiled away, with pacer Nial Smith taking 2-89 in 24 overs, which had three maidens. Gudakesh Motie had 2-93 in 40 overs, which had nine maidens.
The third day bowls off today from 10:00h Eastern Caribbean time.
Meanwhile, in the other match, West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite scored an unbeaten century against Jamaica at Kensington, while Raymon Reifer was unbeaten on a half-century at stumps, after picking up six wickets.
