Cyclist killed after colliding with pick-up on Linden Highway

A 48-year-old man is now dead after the bicycle he was riding collided with a pick-up on the Linden-Soesdyke Highway in the vicinity of Loo Creek.
Dead is Kumar Persaud of Seventh-day Adventist Camp Site, Soesdyke-Linden Highway.
Reports are at around 18:20h the pick-up with registration number GSS 7395 was driven by a female Barbadian national who was proceeding north along the western side of the road when the fatal crash occurred.
It is alleged by the pick-up driver that the pedal cyclist who was in front of her made a sudden turn into her path.
The woman told Police that on seeing such, she pulled further east to avoid a collision but despite her efforts, the vehicle collided with the pedal cyclist.
As a result of the impact, the pedal cyclist fell onto the road’s surface, where he received injuries to his head and body.
He was picked up in an unconscious condition by public-spirited citizens and the Police and taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The driver is in custody as the body of the deceased is now at the Lyken Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem examination.
This accident happened just a day after a three-vehicular accident at the Dora Public Road, Soesdyke-Linden Highway, which resulted in the death of 48-year-old minibus driver, Mark Ault and left three others suffering various injuries.
Based on reports received, the accident involved a minibus driven by the now dead man and two motor cars – a Toyota Corolla and a Carina 212.
The two motor cars were heading to the mining town of Linden while the minibus was heading in the opposite direction. However, in the vicinity of Long Creek, the white Corolla motor car was reportedly driving in the middle of the road when it collided with the minibus.
As a result, the minibus toppled several times and, in the process, collided with the other car. The driver of the minibus was reportedly flung out of the vehicle and landed on the roadway where he died almost instantly. (G9)
