A 57-year-old pedal cyclist was killed along the Corentyne Highway on Wednesday after he was hit by a speeding car.
Dead is Marsha Adiana of Skeldon Riverside, Upper Corentyne Region Six (East Berbice/Corentyne). Reports are that at approximately 11:30h, motorcar HC 8511 was proceeding south along the eastern carriageway of the Princetown Public Road in Corriverton, Corentyne, Berbice and the pedal cyclist was proceeding north along the western side of the road when the driver allegedly swerved west and collided with the cyclist.
According to Police, as a result of the impact, the father of three fell onto the road surface, where he received injuries to his body. He
was picked up in an unconscious condition and taken to the Skeldon Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police state that a breathalyzer test was done on the Crabwood Creek Corentyne car driver, but he was found to be below the prescribed alcohol limit. He is in custody assisting with the investigation.
