A D-Field, Sophia, Georgetown man has become the latest road fatality after he was struck on Wednesday afternoon along the Railway Embankment at Industry, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
Dead is Orin Laundry of Lot 161 D-Field, Sophia.
According to reports, the 37-year-old man as riding his pedal cycle when he was struck about 13:15h by a Route 44 minibus with registration number BWW 283,
which was heading to Georgetown.
The cyclist reportedly turned south onto the Railway Embankment from the access road after which he made a right turn. The minibus, which was heading to the city, reportedly struck him as he turned.
He was picked up by the 29-year-old bus driver and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries about 19:00h on Wednesday.
The driver, of South Vryheid’s Lust, ECD, passed a breathalyser test, but has since been taken into Police custody as investigations continue. His body is presently at the Georgetown Public Hospital morgue awaiting post mortem.
