DC Jammers defeat Colts All-Stars 80-70

TJermaine Slaterhe DC Jammers completed their four game Goodwill tour on Friday night against the Colts All-Stars in familiar fashion. An explosive second quarter blitz guided the DC Jammers to an 80-70 win over the Colts All-Stars, completing the series sweep against all Guyanese opponents.

Winston Robinson led all scorers with 33 points for the Jammers, 23 of which came in the first half while DC Jammers’ captain, Glen Stokes dropped in 15 points.

The Colts All-Stars were led by Nikolai Smith who scored 21 points.

The opening minutes of the game was not a pretty sight as both sides looked out of sync committing multiple turnovers and missing wide lay ups. Jammers gained a little momentum late in the first quarter when high flyer Semaj Inge hammered home a break-away dunk give the Jammers a two point lead (13-11) with 2:45 remaining in the period.

The Guyanese side dominated the glass early, grabbing 3 offensive rebounds in just 45 seconds as the poor shooting quarter continued. Colts All-Stars ended the first, trailing the Jammers 15-14.

The second quarter was where the Jammers started putting distance between themselves and the Colts All-Stars, Winston Robinson’s exploded in the second period, the Jammers went on a 10-1 run in the opening minutes of the second, nailing three consecutive three pointers to lead 25-15 with 7:27 left in the half. The three point barrage continued when Robinson single handedly outscored the Colts All-Stars in the second period opening an 18 point lead for the Jammers as they closed out the half leading 48-27. Robinson scored 23 points in the first half almost as much as the entire Colts All-Star team.

The Jammers would maintain their lead after 3 periods of play leading 62-43 heading into the fourth.

As the fourth quarter went underway the Jammers switched things up, feeding the ball to Stephen Farley in the post capitalizing on the mismatch that presented itself. Farley scored the Jammers first 6 points of the quarter. However, the Guyanese side came fighting back after Nikolai Smith hit back to back three pointers cutting the lead to 10 (72-62) with 3:12remaining and a last chance at a comeback. The Colts All-Stars switched to a full court press at an attempt to force a turn over, nevertheless, Jammers’ Winston Robinson sealed the game with a three pointer to put the Jammers up 79-66 with 1:40 remaining, crushing all hopes of a comeback. The DC Jammers would go on to win 80-70 and complete the series sweep.

The Washington D.C. based Jammers Goodwill four game series was a flawless one with the visitors brushing aside all opponents in their way. All games were played at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall with Pacesetters, Colts, Ravens and Colts All-Stars the victims of the Americans onslaught.

Meanwhile in the first game of the evening President’s college defeated Marian Academy 77-60.
