Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) beat Transport Sports Club (TSC) by two wickets this past Sunday when the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) continued its 1st and 2nd division 2-Day competitions.
Playing at home, DCC won the toss and chose to field, knocking over TSC for 150 in the first innings despite Joel Spooner’s 51. Dexter George snapped up 4-31, Carlton Jaques 2-14 and Xafie Smith 2-38 for DCC, as other contributions from Transport came from; Anthony Antonio (30) and Akeem Redman (24).
DCC in their first innings were rocked for all out with veteran Dennis Squires making 50 and Smith 19. Mark Baptiste ripped through DCC’s order to end with 6-20 while Spooner chipped in with 3-35.
Batting a second time, TSC were steamrolled for 65 with only Mark Ramsammy defying with 15 as Smith returned to bag 6-21 but TSC with a lead of 32 left DCC needing 98 to win. The home side finished on 98-8 with George (44 not out) and Jaques 20.
Spooner claimed 4-25 and Azeem Azeez 3-15 but their hauls proved futile as they inevitably lost. The action continues this weekend.
