The Demerara Cricket Club and the Georgetown Cricket Clubs, as well as the Police Sports Club, moved to two wins in as many matches in yesterday’s action of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)/ Carib T20 Tournament at venues across the City.
DCC defeated Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) by eight wickets. GCC got past Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) by seven wickets, and the Police trounced Transports Sports Club (TSC) by nine wickets.
Everest Cricket Club was also on the winning side, getting their campaign off to the ideal start by beating Gandhi Youth Organisation by eight wickets.
At DCC ground in Queenstown, the hosts restricted GNIC to 149-7 from 20 overs, with Ryan Shun hitting his second half-century in two successive days to set a competitive total. He plundered four maximums and four fours in his top score of 52, to follow up his 80 against Police the previous day. His colleagues Jason George, 24 not out, and David Dick on 28, provided some spark in the latter overs to set the eventual score.
Steven Sankar was superb in flight, spin and accuracy as he captured 2-31 from his four overs, wherein he also sent down a maiden. Apart from his first over, which went for 16 runs, the leg spinner was in good bowling form on the day.
Former First Class player Trevon Garraway also troubled the Woolford Avenue side batsmen with some away movement as he claimed 2-35 from four overs, with his last over going for 16 runs.
Besides Garraway and Sankar, teenage prodigy Ashmead Nedd contained the flow of runs as he sent down four overs for a mere 17 runs.
It took the hosts 16.5 overs to close the game, as West Indies Under-19 star Tevin Imlach smashed seven fours and the same amount of sixes on his way to 87 not out from 44 deliveries. He was supported by Brian Sattaur, who made 39.
At MSC ground, the host made 128-7 in 20 overs, with Marcus Watkins hitting 46 from 36 balls, while Ncosie Barker and Steven Jacobs scored 21 not out and 15 respectively. The left arm orthodox spinner made batting difficult in his three-over spell, from which he collected two wickets for three runs; while Joshua Wade took 2-30.
Renaldo Ali-Mohamed blasted 55, with five fours and three sixes, to take his team to victory at 129-3 in 17 overs. Martin Pestano Belle and Wade were unbeaten on 31 and 12 respectively when victory was accomplished.
Steven Jacobs, Kellon Carmichael and Stephan Browne captured a wicket apiece for the hosts in a disappointing display.
Unlike their first thrilling win against GNIC, Police raced to 78-1 in 7.5 overs, compliments of Alex Algoo, who scored 51 not out to help Police complete an easy win over TSC at Eve Leary.
Steven Harris impressed with 4-9 in TSC’s innings, while Raun Johnson and Ricardo Adams snared two wickets each as TSC folded for 74 all out in 14.5 overs.
At Everest Cricket Club Ground, Carifesta Avenue, GYO suffered their second defeat in successive outings, as they fell for 91 batting first, with only Chris Deonarine (31) to surpass 20. Chandrapaul Hemraj got three wickets, while Ashkaya Persaud took two victims.
In reply, the hosts successfully reached 92-2, to win by eight wickets. Persaud ended on 35 not-out, while Hemraj made 34.
Action will continue next weekend.
