Local powerhouse, Demerara Cricket Club (DCC), on Sunday won the inaugural Guyana Students Association (GUYSA) King of the Wicket title at the Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) Ground in Georgetown.
DCC, on an almost perfect day triumphed over Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) in the final that was reduced to three overs per side out of concern for darkness.
Batting first the eventual champs posted 31-2 from 3 overs then returned to restrict GCC to 28-4 to win by three runs.
In the first three matches of the day; Transport Sports Club (TSC) went down to University of Guyana with scores as follow TSC 36 and UG 37-3. GCC 24-3 defeated Guyana Defence Force (GDF) 23 all out. DCC 65-5 defeated GNIC 57-5.
The winning teams went through to a round robin round where they joined MSC and played each other once. Each team was awarded 2 points per win.
GCC and DCC came out first and second respectively at the end of the round robin and latter got revenge against the former, who won the earlier battle. MSC placed third.
MSC’s Marcus Watkins was named tournament MVP for scoring 49 runs in three innings and taking seven wickets including four in one over and a catch.
The Guyanese Students Association (GUYSA) is a non-profit organization established on 1st January, 2016. GUYSA is the official student representative body for all Guyanese students within the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies (UWI). Its aim is to assist in the welfare of Guyanese students, promote Guyanese cultural ethnicity, create opportunities to develop the skills of members, and contribute to the community.
