DDL conducts Health Fair for employees

Demerara Distillers Limited and Subsidiaries, in collaboration with the Guyana Business Coalition on Health Awareness (GBCHA) recently held a health fair at DDL’s Diamond Complex under the theme “Non-communicable disease screening: let’s talk”.

The purpose of the health fair was to speak with employees, about non-communicable diseases, and to offer an understanding of how these diseases can be prevented and treated. At the health fair, employees who needed help from medical professionals were referred as appropriate.

During the day’s activities which commenced at 09:30h and concluded at 15:30h, more than two hundred (200) employees were tested in the areas of: cholesterol, blood glucose, blood pressure and Body Mass Index (BMI).

There were also three classroom presentations on Coping Mechanisms for stress and related issues and Food and Nutrition thus promoting healthy eating habits and lifestyles.

The Company’s Human Resources Director, Moneeta Singh-Bird, expressed appreciation to the GBCHA, Compassionate VCT services, the Ministry of Health’s Food Policy Division and the Mental Health Department for their contribution toward the success of the health fair.

She said that the company will continue to have such programmes conducted, in the future.
