Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL) has expanded its operations with the opening of a new location in Lethem, Region Nine (Upper Takutu–Upper Essequibo), on Monday. The new facility will serve as a hub for the company’s distribution operations and includes a DSL Cash and Carry outlet, along with additional business services aimed at improving access to products in the region. Chairman of DDL, Komal Samaroo, said the expansion reflects the company’s continued investment in national development and its goal of making Guyanese products more accessible.

“This new location in Lethem represents more than just growth for our company; it strengthens our connection with communities and ensures our products are readily available across the country. We are proud to deepen our presence in Region Nine and contribute to the local economy,” Samaroo stated. Meanwhile, the mayor of Lethem, John Macedo, welcomed the investment, noting its importance to the town’s development.
“This investment represents a significant moment for Lethem, but it is important to recognise that DDL is not just arriving in our community. For over 20 years, the company has been part of our growth and development.

Today’s expansion builds on that history and reinforces Lethem’s position as a growing commercial hub in Region Nine,” he said. The new branch is expected to create employment opportunities and improve service delivery in the region. It will also support cross-border trade, given Lethem’s role as a gateway between Guyana and Brazil. Regional officials, business stakeholders and community members attended the opening, welcoming the investment and its potential to contribute to further development. DDL said it remains focused on expanding its operations to enhance distribution, create opportunities and support Guyana’s economic growth.
