The suspected bandit who was shot dead during an attempted robbery on Wednesday morning in Diamond, East Bank Demerara (EBD) has been identified as Elisha Simon De Florimonte, 20, of Hunter Street, Albouystown, Georgetown.
He was shot twice to the neck by a licensed firearm holder and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Diamond hospital.
It was reported that De Florimonte and an accomplice, a 27-year-old West Ruimveldt man, were attempting to gain entry to a home belonging to a miner in Fifth Avenue, Diamond New Housing Scheme when the man discharged a few rounds in their direction.
De Florimonte was fatally shot in the process. The accomplice, who was subsequently arrested, is expected to be charged shortly. It was reported that the miner was awakened by loud sounds emanating from the yard.
As he looked out, he saw the two men, one armed with a handgun, trying to force open a door. It was then he raised an alarm and discharged a few rounds. The accomplice managed to scale the perimeter fence, but was apprehended by the Police who responded to the report.
