Dead robbery suspect identified as Annandale man

The suspected bandit who was shot and killed after he and his accomplice were found in the compound of a manufacturing business at Eccles Industrial Site, East Bank Demerara, has been identified as an Annandale, East Coast Demerara (ECD) resident.
Dead is Zadan Mohammad, 29, of Annandale Pump Road, East Coast Demerara.
Reports are that at about 21:45h on Friday at Industrial Site, Eccles, Mohammad was allegedly shot by a security officer attached to Delta Security Services.
Police on Sunday said that the armed security officer was making checks around his point of duty when he observed two male intruders in the compound.
He told investigators that he subsequently shouted at the men, which led to one of the suspects firing a shot at him. According to Police, the security officer said that to protect himself, he took cover behind a truck and discharged a round in the direction of the men. In a bid to escape from the premises, which is separated by a canal, one of them fell to the ground. However, upon checking the canal, Mohammad was found with injuries to his abdomen. He died at the scene.
The body was pronounced dead at the scene by an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and taken to the Lyken Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem.
Additionally, a search was conducted in the area and police unearthed a spent 12-gauge shell which was lodged along with the shotgun and five cartridges.
The security officer is in custody assisting with the investigation.
