Three persons lost their lives over the weekend in separate accidents at Uitvlugt, West Coast Demerara; Providence, East Bank Demerara and Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo.

Dead are Kenneth Smith, Stephen Bishop and Isaac Hussain.
The first accident occurred on at De Willem Public Road, West Coast Demerara (WCD), on Saturday, which caused the death of Kenneth Smith, 54, of Ocean View Uitvlugt, WCD.

Police said that the accident involved motor pick-up GPP 8150 and motor car PZZ 9052 which was driven by a University of Guyana (UG) student who lost control of the car he was driving, killing Smith and injuring 43-year-old Rampaul Sursen, a carpenter of Tuschen New Scheme, East Bank Essequibo (EBE).
Based on reports received, at about 17:45h on Saturday, motor pick-up GPP 8150 driven by 39-year-old Sahadeo Singh of Hydronie, EBE, was proceeding along the De Willem Public Road in a line of traffic when the driver alleged that he indicated that he was making a turn into Harry Kissoon Street.

In the process of doing so, the UG student who was driving lost control of his vehicle and collided with the motor pick-up before crashing into a fence and eventually colliding with the two men – Smith and Sursen – who were standing in the yard.
As a result of the collision, both men sustained injuries about their bodies. They were picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital.
Smith, however, succumbed while receiving treatment and Sursen was referred to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was admitted with a fractured left ankle and other injuries about his body.
The UG student, of Public Road, Hague, WCD, was arrested. A breathalyser test was conducted on both drivers but there were no traces of alcohol in their systems.

Reports are that the man was struck down by a 34-year-old driver of Herstelling New Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara (EBD), who was intoxicated.
According to reports, the man was driving his motor car at a fast rate of speed proceeding south along the eastern carriageway.
The driver alleged that the pedestrian suddenly ran across the road and upon seeing this, he applied brakes but to no avail.
The car collided with the man, causing him to fall onto the road’s surface where he received injuries.
He was picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where he was examined by doctors on duty and pronounced dead.
When Guyana Times visited the family on Monday, the man’s only child, 26-year-old Stephen Bishop Junior, was completely devastated.
The mother of the victim’s son, Marcia Craig, explained that the father and son had a close relationship and now the young man is traumatised.
“My son come waking me up this morning (Monday) crying in tears, it was so shocking for me because I only spoke to him two days ago. We did call whole night last night because we had a lil birthday party here, so we expected him [to come] because he was fun, he is the life of the party,” Craig explained, noting that the man never showed up.
It was only on Monday morning that the family was notified of the accident. Maureen Scott, the now dead man’s sister, said she was the one to be informed of her brother’s death.
