In the process of doing so, the UG student who was driving lost control of his vehicle and collided with the motor pick-up before crashing into a fence and eventually colliding with the two men – Smith and Sursen – who were standing in the yard.
As a result of the collision, both men sustained injuries about their bodies. They were picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital.

Providence accident
The second accident occurred on Sunday at about 18:55h on the Providence Public Road, East Bank Demerara, which left 51-year-old Stephen Bishop of North East La Penitence dead.

The car that struck Bishop down

Reports are that the man was struck down by a 34-year-old driver of Herstelling New Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara (EBD), who was intoxicated.
According to reports, the man was driving his motor car at a fast rate of speed proceeding south along the eastern carriageway.
The driver alleged that the pedestrian suddenly ran across the road and upon seeing this, he applied brakes but to no avail.
The car collided with the man, causing him to fall onto the road’s surface where he received injuries.
He was picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where he was examined by doctors on duty and pronounced dead.
When Guyana Times visited the family on Monday, the man’s only child, 26-year-old Stephen Bishop Junior, was completely devastated.
The mother of the victim’s son, Marcia Craig, explained that the father and son had a close relationship and now the young man is traumatised.
“My son come waking me up this morning (Monday) crying in tears, it was so shocking for me because I only spoke to him two days ago. We did call whole night last night because we had a lil birthday party here, so we expected him [to come] because he was fun, he is the life of the party,” Craig explained, noting that the man never showed up.
It was only on Monday morning that the family was notified of the accident. Maureen Scott, the now dead man’s sister, said she was the one to be informed of her brother’s death.
“This morning (Monday), the Police call me about 5 o’clock and ask me my name, and…they said he get knock down last night,” Scott told Guyana Times.
She said Bishop had gone to the Ramada Princess Hotel, Providence, where he was visiting another sibling who had arrived from overseas.

However, at around 01:30h on Monday, Hussain succumbed to his injuries.
According to his mother Nadira Hussain, her son left his home on Sunday and said he was going for a drive around the corner. However, sometime later, she received a phone call that he was involved in an accident.

When we go there, they said he was critical and have to transfer him to Georgetown Hospital,” the grieving mother explained.
The young man’s mother said after he was transferred to the city hospital, she was told by doctors that he was not going to make it because he was haemorrhaging in the brain. She said he was at the time on a life support machine, and did not make it out the day.
“This is very hard for me because this is my only son. This is really, really hurting me because he is just 18 years old. He just to go and play songs and come home back. He doesn’t go nowhere, he doesn’t have no friends apart from his DJ friends them…”, the tearful woman said. (LaWanda McAllister)
