The unidentified corpse of a male wearing a pair of brown trousers and a grey long-sleeved shirt was on Saturday afternoon spotted in a canal by a farmer attending to his rice fields about two hundred metres off the main access road at Mibicuri, Black Bush Polder Corentyne, East Berbice, Region Six.
Fished out of the canal by a tractor owned by the Black Bush Polder Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) working under police supervision, the body was observed to be that of someone apparently in his mid-forties, and it was in an advanced state of decomposition.
Villagers say they cannot identify the body, and Police are searching their missing persons’ database to determine the identity of the man.
A funeral parlour contracted to keep bodies discovered by police in similar circumstances has refused to accept the body because of its advanced state of decomposition, thus the body was taken to the Port Mourant Hospital Mortuary.
Police are investigating this discovery.
