Decomposed body found in canal identified as Georgetown resident
Regional Commander Andries Junor confirmed that the decomposed body that was pulled from the Strathspey Canal on the East Coast of Demerara (ECD) on Monday, matches the identification card that was found in the dead man’s possession.
The man has been identified as 25-year-old Deshawn Mc Lean of Lot 229 Luckhoo Street Lodge Housing Scheme.
Mc Lean’s father, after identifying his body, told Police that his son was a patient of Dr Bhiro Harry, who is the Head of the Mental Health Unit at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC). He was last seen by his family in January.
Also, information reaching this publication revealed that the dead man’s mother was similarly discovered a few years ago along the Kitty Seawall, Georgetown.
Reports are at about 07:30h on Monday last, the man’s body was observed floating in a canal by residents. Subsequently, an alarm was raised and the police were notified.
McLean was clad in a pair of brown long pants and was carrying a red haversack on his back. The bag had contained the dead man’s identification card.
His body is presently at Lyken’s funeral home awaiting a post-mortem to determine the next move by the police who are continuing their investigations. (G-9)
