The badly decomposed body of a man was discovered in a house at Lot 40 Paul Stewart Housing Scheme, New Amsterdam, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne).
The man has been identified as Robert Hercules. The 65-year-old man lived alone and was last seen on Christmas Eve at his New Amsterdam home.
According to the man’s neighbours, there was a faint stench coming from the building but they did not make much of it. The body was discovered at about 10:30h on Thursday. The discovery was made by the man’s son, Steven Hercules. According to the younger Hercules, he called for his father but received no reply. He explained that he last saw his father on Christmas Eve and had promised to visit again on Boxing Day. However, because of flooding due to rainfall, he could not make the promised visit. He said too that the door was locked from the inside.The man was found lying on a bed. His body is currently at the New Amsterdam Hospital Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
