Several primary school teams put their skills to the test at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue as they competed in the 22nd annual Edward Cobenna Memorial end-of-school year windball cricket competition.
Defending champions North Georgetown Primary got off to a winning start, as they defeated rivals and last year’s runners-up Sophia Primary. Sophia batted first and scored 23-3; Georgetown Primary replied with 26-0. Samuel Grant top scored with 12.
In another match, St Pius Primary posted 50-0, with Danesh Ramjeaum contributing 40. In reply, St Margaret’s Primary cruised to 52-0 after notable contributions from Nehemiah Singh (28) and Nathan Parag (10).
FE Pollard posted 53 without loss as both Alex Clarks and Antoine Griffith hit 28 runs. Ketley Primary failed to reach their target, scoring 48-1. Christopher Nurse had the highest score for his team with 32.
St Agnes Primary posted 51-1 as Mark David (30) topscored, with Trevon Matthews making 14. In the chase, Bel Air could only muster 49-2 as Kymary Missigher made the highest score, 28.
Smith Memorial thumped JE Burnham after posting 42-0. Kelvin Bobb (24) and Deain Permaul (12) had the highest scores for Smith Memorial. JE Burnham slumped to 32-0. Justin Lee Price (14) was the only player with double figures.
After attaining 44-1, West Ruimveldt lost to Enterprise Primary. Vikash Aeeran (24) and Omarian Cummings (12) had the highest scores for West, but Khy Atkinson’s 22 led Enterprise to their 45-1 win.
Winfer Gardens Primary were also in the winners’ circle after making 52-2. Quan Torrien (26) and Shane Price (12) led the way for the East Street school. Meanwhile, the chase saw Tucville Primary missing out with 46-2. Raheen Henry was outstanding, taking two wickets.
In the final boy’s match, West Ruimveldt made a mammoth total, 74-1, after O Cummings (29); Joshua Gomes (24) and V Aeeran (14) made contributions. The target was too much for Redeemer Primary; they could only muster 56-1 after contributions from Cleon Rhyma (22) and Crosby Padmoore (16).
A girl’s encounter saw Smith’s Memorial triumphing over the West Ruimveldt girls. West made 41 without loss, but Smith’s Dellanna Small (22) and Fonda Bibbs (12) ensured their team would make it across the line.
