Defending champs Milerock sneak into quarter-finals
The round-robin round of the 2nd annual Petra Organised Limacol Football Tournament has concluded with defending champions Milerock being the last team to qualify for the quarter-finals.
Playing at the McKenzie Sports Club Ground, Linden on Sunday evening, Milerock FC and arch rivals Federal Winners Connection produced a goalless draw to ensure they (Milerock) pip Grove Hi Tech to the second qualifying spot in Group A.
The scruffy exchange was marred by an abusive of physicality as it hardly brought the sizeable crowd in attendance to their feet since they failed to be a procession of offensive plays.
In the earlier match, Eagles United soared to a 3-0 win over New Amsterdam United to also book their quarter-final spot.
Randolph Lewis netted in the 8th while Kurt Johnson and Kellon Primo scored second half goals, scoring in the 70th and 87th.
Meanwhile, Winners Connection, Western Tigers, Den Amstel and Mahaica Determinators will receive $100,000 for topping their respective groups.
The other teams to secure passage to the next round are Santos, Guyana Police Force and they will pocket $50,000, $30,000 and $20,000 apiece in order of placing.
The quarter-finals will be played on this coming Sunday and pits Milerock against Western Tigers followed by Winners Connection and Eagles at the McKenzie Sports Club.
Over at the Victoria Community Centre Ground, Police will meet Den Amstel followed by Mahaica and Santos. Winner of the event will pocket $500,000 and a trophy while the second, third and fourth placed teams will receive $300,000, $200,000 and $100,000 respectively and the corresponding accolade.
To date, Banks DIH Limited under the GT Beer Brand, Trophy Stall and Star Party Rentals are the other companies that have thrown their support behind the championship.
