Guinness Greatest of the Streets West Demerara
The West Demerara Zone of the Guinness Greatest of the Streets Football Tournament commenced Friday evening at the Pouderoyen tarmac with 10 highly competitive matches, one of which saw defending champions Showstoppers sending strong signals of a title repeat with the 3-0 defeat of Small Panama.
After Panama conceded an own goal in the 7th minute, Dexroy Adams and
Kayode King added two more, scoring in the 16th and 20 minute.
Similarly, strikes by Dwayne St. Kitts (6th) and Gideon Payne (12th) led Westside Ballers to a 2-0 win over Comfort Ballers.
DeKinderen Ballers also had a rewarding evening defeating Vege Boyz 1-0 after Steffen Dickson scored in the 19th.
Meanwhile, Agricola lost 0-1 to Future Crane, with Ashton Hodge’s goal in the 13th being the difference between the two teams.
In the evening’s only two goalless matches in regulation time, Hustlers won 1-0 on penalty kicks against Bagotstown Ballers while Bagotstown Warriors also won in identical fashion against Young Ballers.
Nicquan Nestor led ESPN pass Samaroo Dam, scoring in the 14th minute while Admiral United were also on the winning note after Lexroy Manfield had a double, scoring in the 2nd and 5th and Emanuel Henry in the 11th.
Harmony-B lost to Good Intent All-Stars 1-0 with Daniel Alves scoring in the 15th while Patentia Street Ballers got the better of Raiders with Kurt Garnett (15th) and Andre Bernard (18th) being the marksmen.
Action will continue on Tuesday at the same venue with more matches. The top teams will competing for a top prize of $450,000 while second to fourth place finishers will pocket $150,000, $100,000 and $50,000 respectively.
